A "welcoming" sign in Montluçon

The large mural of a train is on the side of a HLM
* in Montluçon. There are a number of HLMs in Montluçon and each has a mural painting of a similar style.
*HLMs (Habitation à Loyer Modéré) are low rent housing projects that were first built in France during the housing crisis following WWII. The building of HLMs reached a high in the late 1960s and early 1970s. France makes it a priority to build HLMs in cities with a population of 50,000 + (population can include the city's suburbs).

I would say that the essence of France's road system is the
rond-point (roundabout). The
rond-point replaces the traffic intersection that one would find in the United States. The above photo is of a desert themed
rond-point in Montluçon, which is quite random and bizarre, but it adds character.
